Soil Sisters: a new feminist podcast to amplify the voices of rural women

15 October 2025

This 15 October, as the world marks the International Day of Rural Women, we are excited to share a powerful initiative: the Soil Sisters podcast series, launched by the SWIFT Project.

The SWIFT project is built on a bold feminist foundation, naming the exclusions women and gender-diverse people face in agriculture and rural policy. Its podcast, Soil Sisters, brings together farmers, movement organisers, researchers, and local leaders to speak openly about labour, land, care work, migration, power, and more.

Why it matters on the International Day of Rural Women:

  • Rural women are often invisible in political debates, even though they play a vital role in managing land, seeds, biodiversity and community resilience.
  • Soil Sisters amplifies their voices, showing how feminist participatory research, community economies, and alliances across borders are already changing realities.
  • By tuning in and sharing these stories, we strengthen solidarity across Europe, Latin America, Africa, Asia, and support women farmers struggling under trade deals, CAP cuts, and climate pressure.

ECVC encourages all members, allies, and supporters to explore the SWIFT portal, listen to the podcast, and bring these conversations into your communities, policy spaces, and advocacy.

Let the voices of rural women guide us toward policies that value care, equality, land rights, and food sovereignty.

The SWIFT project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Programme under Grant Agreement 101084561.
