In the face of the multiple crises facing the agricultural sector (including low prices, farm closures, land concentration, international dependence on fertilisers and pesticides, etc.), the current CAP model, based on decoupled payments, fails to address the main obstacle to the transition towards more resilient agroecological farming systems: the guarantee of remunerative prices that cover production costs.
In light of this, ECVC, the Université Libre de Bruxelles, and the International Institute for Strategic Studies organised an international conference bringing together researchers and farmers. The aim was to reflect on the lessons to be learned from the successes, failures and setbacks of agricultural market regulation policies in Europe and other parts of the world, both past and present.
Based on over 100 contributions from academics and farmers, ECVC will present the conference report in an online session on 18 May at 16:00 CEST. Join farmers and academics to develop a deeper understanding of the economic arguments underpinning market regulation as a clear way forward for enabling the agroecological transition, followed by a Q&A session.
