ECVC has presented a strong contribution to the European Commission’s Implementation Dialogue on the Nitrates Directive, the Water Framework Directive and the Nature Directives. This document firmly highlights farmers’ perspectives on implementation challenges and demands coherent policies that effectively protect water, biodiversity and rural livelihoods.
In its contribution, ECVC asserts that the primary difficulties farmers face are rooted in structural issues such as price pressure, overproduction, trade agreements and the concentration of livestock systems, not environmental legislation. ECVC demands improved coordination between environmental rules and agricultural policies and insists on stronger support for agroecological transitions so that farmers can protect ecosystems while ensuring viable farms.
