Call to Action – 17 December @Liege Airport (11:00): Farmers from FUGEA and ECVC mobilise for fair prices and market regulation

12 December 2025

Farmers from ECVC (FUGEA, Boerenforum, Confédération Paysanne, AbL,...) will mobilise to Liège airport on 17 December to protest against the EU's campaign for market deregulation and policies that threaten socially, economically and environmentally sustainable agriculture.

Three policy threats jeopardise European agriculture:

  • the EU-Mercosur free trade agreement,
  • the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF),
  • and the post-2027 CAP proposal.

Across these files, policymakers are prioritising the interests of agribusiness, industrial lobbies, and other sectors over the farmers who feed Europe. This threatens not only farming families, but the EU’s capacity to ensure food sovereignty, guarantee fair prices, and secure a future for young farmers.

Our demands:

  • We reject the EU-Mercosur agreement, with or without safeguard clauses. This free trade agreement worsens unfair competition, drives down prices, and accelerates the abandonment of European farmers.
  • We need a strong CAP, with a strong budget, redistributed to small and medium-scale farmers. We deserve a CAP that respects the rights of farmers and agricultural workers, and the right of citizens to healthy food produced in ways that respect the environment and animal welfare.
  • We oppose the deregulation of pesticides, GMOs, seeds, deforestation rules, carbon taxes, and other standards. Deregulation does not improve farmers’ incomes. We demand market regulation and strong social and environmental standards that protect sustainable farming and rural communities.
  • We call for guaranteed generational renewal; without fair prices, market regulation, and adequate public support, Europe will lose its next generation of farmers. We need EU policies that allow young people to enter, stay in, and live from farming.

Why are we mobilising?

On 18–19 December, the European Council meets to, most likely, decide on EU-Mercosur, the MFF budget, and the CAP reform. These decisions will shape the future of EU food systems.

The ECVC calls on its members and farmers across Europe to join forces on 17 December and say:

  • NO! to EU-Mercosur
  • NO! to deregulation
  • YES! to fair prices, and market regulation
  • YES! to a strong CAP that can ensure a sustainable agricultural model
  • YES! to a future for young Farmers
