On March 7, European Coordination Via Campesina and Nyéléni Europe organized a public conference on CAP and Food Sovereignty called “More Farmers, Better Food”. The event took place within the framework of a project co-financed by the European Commission, and its main goal was to communicate to a large public and to European institutions the results of the Nyéléni Europe Forum, held in Austria in August 2011.
The conference was hosted by the Committee of the Regions.
During the morning session the video “European Nyéléni Forum for Food Sovereignty" was presented and the booklets, “Synthesis Report & Action Plan - Nyéléni Europe 2011: Forum for Food Sovereignty 16 - 21 August 2011, Krems, Austria", distributed.
Before the open debate with the European institutions, participants performed a theatrical scene depicting corporate control over the food system. The participants underlined the capacity of people and farmers to resist and to transform food and the situation of farmers in the future.
In the afternoon there was an open debate with European institutions on the future of the CAP, in order to steer this policy towards more local and ecological modes of production, distribution and consumption. You can read, share or download the booklet here.
