The recording of the public event “How to implement the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Peasants and Other People Working in Rural Areas (UNDROP) at the European and national level to promote sustainable and resilient food systems” is now available!

The event, that took place on the 19 February 2025 online, has been organized by European Coordination Via Campesina (ECVC), Mundbat and FIAN International (European sections) in the framework of the project “Rebooting the food system”, co-founded by the European Union, and the project “Promoting the achievement of the SDGs through the promotion of UNDROP and food sovereignty” run by the NGO Mundubat.

The event aimed to discuss with key representatives of the European Union how to implement UNDROP at the European and national level to ensure the promotion of peasants’ rights in Europe, the creation of resilient and sustainable food systems based on food sovereignty, and the right to food for all.

Jean Thévenot, a peasant farmer and member of the ECVC Coordination Committee, opened the event and presented ECVC policy recommendations on how to implement UNDROP in Europe. Three interventions by Geneviève Savigny, United Nations Working Group on the rights of peasants and other people working in rural areas, Sarai Martín of Mundubat and Christophe Golay, from the Geneva Academy, followed. In the second part of the event, institutional reactions, Mounir Satouri, President of the Subcommittee on Human Rights of the European Parliament, and Elena Schubert, Equality coordinator of the Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development of the European Commission, reacted to the interventions of speakers of part 1. The event was closed by Ia Ebralidze, member of the ECVC Coordination Committee, who reminded ECVC priorities on UNDROP implementation in Europe. The event was facilitated by Sybille Dirren, FIAN International.
