ECVC today sent an open letter to the Spanish Presidency outlining our concerns regarding their intention to promote an agreement to change the legislation on new GMOs.
ECVC aims to raise the alarm regarding the risks of deregulation of these new techniques for the whole European agricultural sector. The proposed changes would be a clear violation of farmers' rights over seeds, as recognised in article 9 of the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (ITPGRFA), as well as article 19 of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Peasants and Other Rural Peoples (UNDROP). We encourage you to adapt and send this letter to representatives at the national level.
