ECVC has joined 40 environmental, agricultural and GMO-free sector organisations in an open letter to the European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety Stella Kyriakides about the Commission's targeted consultation on new GMOs.
The signatory organisations denounce a biased, confused and misleading targeted consultation process that does not allow the consulted organisations to oppose a potential deregulation of these new techniques. This consultation process, far from gathering the different positions of stakeholders, including opposition, only serves to support the deregulation project carried by the European Commission. We consider that such a biased process should in no way be used as a basis for the impact assessment that will lead to a legislative proposal from the Commission on new GMOs in 2023.
ECVC refused to take part in the Commission's public consultation and targeted consultation on the same issue, also on grounds of bias.
