Ahead of the meeting of the Council's Working Party on Genetic Resources & Innovation in Agriculture of 6-7 November, ECVC sent jointly with Arche Noah, IFOAM Organics Europe, the Biodynamic Federation Demeter International and Eco-PB a joint letter to EU Ministers of Agriculture adressing our main demands in the context of the ongoing negotiations on the plant reproductive material (PRM) file, spefically on articles 41 and onwards of the proposals. These include : demands related to obligations of professional operators, which should be lightened for smaller seed companies and from which farmers exchanging seeds should be exempted, but also demands concerning conservation varieties, the evaluation of sustainability (VSCU), the organic regulation, and finally demands to enforce the EU's international obligations by adopting provisions preventing illicit appropriation (biopiracy) of variety denominations.
The French version of the statement will be published shortly.
