Much has happened since Nyéléni Europe & Central Asia outlined its vision for the future of food and farming in Europe through the publication More Farmers, Better Food in March 2019. The Covid-19 pandemic has uprooted business-as-usual and laid bare the importance of building truly sustainable and resilient food supply chains in Europe, founded on human rights-based policies. In March 2020, the European Commission (EC) published its vision for the Farm to Fork (F2F) Strategy within the framework of the wider Green Deal. Meanwhile, Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) negotiations have continued. This follow-up chapter aims to summarise the contemporary context of EU agriculture, present our analysis on the Farm to Fork proposals and implications for the CAP, and offer recommendations for moving towards a truly sustainable European food system.
