LVC is a decentralised movement and for the past eight years, the headquarters of the movement has been in Harare, Zimbabwe, hosted by the peasant organization ZIMSOFF. As of November 30, it will be hosted by the European Region of La Via Campesina (European Coordination Via Campesina) and will be based in Bagnolet, France, hosted by the Confédération Paysanne At the European level, in the context of the attacks on the Farm to Fork Strategy, the arrival of the secretariat of a global organisation strongly committed to agroecology and food sovereignty will strengthen the citizens' movement for a more social and environmental agriculture. On the occasion of the transition ceremony (that you can follow on the Facebook page of La Via Campesina from 1-3 pm CET on 30 November 2021), we invite you to participate in a press conference with several international peasant leaders of the movement. Who is La Via Campesina? La Via Campesina is an international and decentralized movement that brings together millions of peasants, small and medium producers, landless people, rural women and youth, indigenous people, migrants, agricultural workers and more. It defends peasant agriculture and food sovereignty as a means to promote social justice and dignity. It is composed of 182 organizations in 81 countries in Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas. To ensure that the international movement represents the diversity of its members, the International Operational Secretariat of La Via Campesina changes continents according to the collective decision taken every four years by its International Conference. The organization's work includes the struggle for land and for genuine agrarian reform that ensures that the rights to use and manage land, territories, water, seeds, livestock and biodiversity are in the hands of those who produce food and not in the hands of multinational corporations.
