On 17-18 July, governments from Latin America, the Caribbean and the European Union will get together in Brussels for the EU-CELAC summit. The European Commission and several countries want to seize the moment to make progress on the ratification of the EU-Mercosur trade deal and other toxic free-trade agreements (like EU-Mexico and EU-Chile).
The trade agreement between the EU and the Mercosur countries (Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay) is outdated and unfair. This free trade deal serves the interests of multinationals at the expense of the planet, human rights, workers and small farmers. If ratified, it would increase inequalities, deforestation and the use of toxic pesticides.
