In the frame of a project co-financed by the EU, DG Agriculture and Rural Development, European Coordination Via Campesina – ECVC – organizes in Brussels on October 29th 2014, two events to raise the public awareness on the importance of peasant family farming for a sustainable food system.
October 29th, 2014 European Coordination Via Campesina organizes “FARM IN THE CITY” and a SEMINAR on “Small Farms and better food system” In the frame of a project co-financed by the EU, DG Agriculture and Rural Development, European Coordination Via Campesina – ECVC – organizes in Brussels on October 29th 2014, two events to raise the public awareness on the importance of peasant family farming for a sustainable food system. From h. 9.00 to h. 13.00, at the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), 74 Rue de Trèves, Salle TRE – 7701, a SEMINAR on “Small Farms and better food systems: how better integrate these actors of local and sustainable innovation in policies and research in Europe?” . The objective of this seminar is, from grassroots experiences, to chart the paths through which research and policies can follow and support the phenomenon of small farming, towards a better and sustainable future; From h. 11.00 to h. 18.00, a “FARM IN THE CITY” , in Place du Luxembourg. Several organizations and small farmers will animate the square with their products, animals and activities, to raise the awareness on the need of developing policies conducives to sustainable family farming and to increasing the knowledge and the communication on these themes. The International Year of Family Farming in 2014 highlighted the importance of small farms in “feeding the world”, in ensuring more varied landscapes and a more sustainable use of natural resources and in supporting the rural employment.
