7-10 March: International Congress on Global Peasants’ Rights

13 February 2017

Registrations to participate in the International Congress on Global Peasants' Rights are now open. The event - co-organized by ECVC along with the Haus der Bauern, FIAN and other civil society organizations- will be held in Schwabisch Hall, Germany from 7-10 March of this year, bringing together peasants, small scale producers, rural workers, and other people working in rural areas as well as other international organisations and numerous stakeholders.

The Global Peasants' Rights' congress is meant to shed light on the situation of small scale farmers and the rural population around the world, draw public attention to the importance of peasants for sustainable local and regional production of food in agro ecological quality and emphasize the need to protect their rights and their indigenous knowledge.

The goal of the congress is twofold: to increase awareness of the situation and the requirements of international small farmers and to support the UN working group for the development of a “Declaration on the Rights of Peasants and Other People Working in Rural Areas”.

The organizers of this event along with the many other groups, associations and networks supporting the Congress want to contribute to coordinated actions that support the recognition of the rights of peasants and other people working in rural areas within an international human rights framework.

To participate in this important event, check out the program or have more information, please visit the Global Peasants Rights' Congress website.
