Carbon farming: A “new business model” … for who?

23 March 2022

On 23 March 2022, ECVC  realeased its publication, “Carbon farming: A 'new business model' ... for who?”.

Of the many proposals in the European Green Deal of December 2019, the European Institutions are currently focusing on “carbon farming”. One of the priorities of the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union, ECVC considers this initiative to be extremely dangerous for food sovereignty.   The publication details the contextual political and economic roots of this initiative, which involves encouraging farmers and owners of land and forests to adopt practices that favour absorption of carbon dioxide in the soil and in biomass, to help limit climate change and global warming. We must indeed take ambitious measures to tackle climate change, but nonetheless the planned approach raises various questions, which this document aims to examine. You can read the publication in the different languages in pdf.
