ECVC shows solidarity with anti GM crop activists in France

12 April 2018

Following a press release that a group of French organizations drafted on 9th April about the trial of a group of GM crop activists, ECVC would like to express its solidarity with, and support of, these militants.

Following a press release that a group of French organizations drafted on 9th April about the trial of a group of anti-GM crop activists (faucheurs volontaires), ECVC would also like to express its solidarity with, and support of, these people.   They stand accused of destroying a rapeseed test field. These rapeseed crops belong to the multinational organisation, BASF, which claims that "it obtained them through mutagenesis". This is a GMO production technique that lies outside the scope of the current European GMO regulation. However, BASF also used another technique, the cultivation of microspores, which falls within the scope of the GMO regulation. Therefore, ECVC believes that the activists' actions were important in order to uphold the law.   For more information, click here for the press release that the French organizations published.   Photo credit: Faucheurs Volontaires   CONTACTS:
